Citi Field

I saw the Phillies play the Met's last night. So far the Phillies have not lost with me in attendance in NY (Yankees Memorial Day weekend).

It was my first trip to the new Citi field. For a "cheap" $600 million the Met's were able to build a new stadium. I would say it is not as nice as San Francisco or Phildelphia's stadiums but it is along those lines.

I went to the game with Walter, an old coworker. The only poker content to this post is it is Walter who brought me to Jamies game several years ago. We got to the game and headed to Blue Smoke. Unlike the Yankees the Met's actually put some thought into the food concessions at the park. In the center field stands Danny Meyers has outposts of Blue Smoke, Shake Shack and a new taco stand. The menu at Blue Smoke is ribs ($10) or BBQ sandwich ($9). I asked the cashier what she recommended and she said the sandwich since they were out of ribs. How are they out of 1/2 the menu items before the game even begins? The BBQ sandwich was very good. Walter was stuffed and was ready to go to the seats but I was ready for dessert. I got the taco combo. It was also very good.

Our seats were $23 face and I got them for $20 (all-in) on stub hub. We were near the top in the left field. The sight lines were bad because the lower stands blocked a lot of the outfield. I was impressed that Walter could see the catches I was missing until I realized he was watching the plays on the scoreboard TV.

Our seats were above a synagogue group (wearing Met's hats in Hebrew) and in the middle of a work outing. The group leader tried to move us but apparently on of his charges sold their seats on stub hub.

Someone once said the coldest winter I ever spent was summer at Shea. This still holds at Citi Field. After the 7th inning we went and hot hot chocolate from Dunkin Donuts to warm up. They were on the 1st level and you can stand behind the expensive seats (they even have cup holders for the standers!) so we watched the rest of the game from the 100 level.

There was a girl in a Phillies shirt and hat that was stirring up the crowd. It got quiet when the Phillies hit a 3 run homer in the 10th to take the lead. Then it started up again with the crowd chanting You are ugly. She responded not as ugly as your girlfriends and then 3 woman in Met's gear went over chairs after her. Security stepped in and the Phillies won.
