I have successfully planned my first Bachelorette Party. Abbie who is getting married in July wanted one last weekend in AC as a single poker player. My arm was twisted so I “volunteered” the Hellman Hilton and Hellman Limo service.
Before the trip started I went to Ricky’s to stock up on party favors. They sent me behind the beaded curtain. I saw things no man should have to see! I left with “Last Fling Before the Bling” tiaras and noise makers and a pair of plastic handcuffs.
My car is currently parked in Staten Island so on Saturday morning we took the 10am ferry and my friend George picked us up and drove us back to my car.
We made it to the Showboat with an hour to spare before the 2pm tourney ($105 + $20). Abbie, Lisa and I all played the tourney. Abbie went out early and I took a hit (AK v J8) I raised preflop, J8 called. I C bet, J8 called. On the river I hit nothing and J8 hit a straight and took a third of my chips. I made it to the break but came back in the all in zone. Blinds were at 800. The player to my right raised to 2,400. I had K,J and went all in. 2,400 looked at his cards and said, “ I have shit”. I said, “Good, I can beat shit”. He called and did indeed have shit, J 9. There was a K on the flop and I thought I was golden. But alas he caught a straight and I was off to the Taj to play Omaha.
There were over 20 names on the 2/4 interest list so I signed up for 5/10 (8th on the list). They called a new 2/4 table and I walked over to see if maybe there would be a seat. Unfortunately it was me and the dealer : ( after a half hour and no movement on 5/10 I went back to the Showboat and joined Abbie and Lisa at a ½ table.
I was doing well and was up over $200 at one point. By 9:30 Jamie joined us and I was up $100. We took Abbie to dinner at the Italian restaurant at Showboat and then we went back to the table for a night cap. I won another $64, so I was up $39 for the trip. Not much but it was my first positive poker in a while so I was happy to book a positive weekend.
On Sunday we drove to Harrah’s. We had breakfast (pepper and egg subs) at Sack o subs in Harrah’s food court. www.sackosubs.com I had coffee spilled down my shirt when one of the employees slammed open the door into me. They did offer me a new coffee, but did not seem to care that my limited edition Aladdin shirt was not looking so good.
After breakfast I tried to pay for the May 8th Harrah’s Poker Open Event # 3 $300 plus $40. I tried to pay at the poker cage and was told I needed to go to the Main Cage Sweetie. I then asked for directions to the “Main Cage Sweetie”. I talked to one of the pit bosses. His cell phone rang with the Godfather theme. I said do you need to answer, and he said no, It is only my wife. He said the tourney would not sell out and that they are prepared for up to 1,200 entries, so I will pay the night before.
So we left Jamie and Abbie in the poker room and Lisa and I went to the outlets to shop. I went home plus $39 and have 2 new pair of sneakers. The weather was beautiful and I had the sun roof open the whole way back. On the ferry home we went right past the Queen Mary II.
All in all it was a good weekend and Abbie was happy.
